The National Galleries of Scotland: Christmas Blogger Event

The weather outside might be frightful, but inside the Scottish National Gallery it is a magical, cosy wonderland. Luckily, it was the location of a fantastic Christmas blogger event held on St Andrew’s Day in our capital city.

A group of our esteemed bloggers escaped the cold for an afternoon of luxury, including a delicious afternoon tea in The Scottish Cafe and Restaurant and a personal guided tour of the two magnificent Gallery shops led by expert buyer, Stuart Sizer. Guests were treated to the finest of fizz and scones as they got to know each other, hear about working life within the Galleries and how the Cafe and shop have become hugely popular over the years. The Gallery team talked about products close to their heart and the work that goes into sourcing such a unique range.

Refreshed post-tea, the bloggers were taken to explore the two shops situated within the Scottish National Gallery. The main area is a festive utopia (if you haven’t visited pop in – you could easily spend an hour looking at all the wonderful gifts). From books to baubles, Murano glass to Monarch of the Glen merchandise… there really is something for everyone.

The highlight of the day for us was seeing our bloggers delight at what they found in the Princes Street shop. Tucked away under the main pillars of the Gallery is a hidden little haven of unique pieces for the art lover, jewelry lover, humour lover…. one of our bloggers declared it was made up of her entire Christmas wish list.

The stories behind the pieces are just as fascinating as the items themselves, each reflecting the Galleries’ world-class collection of fine art. And with Christmas around the corner, both shops provide an escape from the madness of Princes Street with such unique gifts for yourselves or the ones you love.

Indeed each shop within each Gallery is as exciting as the next – all housing the most beautiful range. Even better, you can then while away an hour or two exploring floors of stunning art and exhibitions.
